Live with Hoda & Kathie Lee!

I hope that Kathie Lee's new gig on "The Today Show" means they'll do more original programming in the last hour of the show instead of repeating segments from earlier in the show.

Best Celebrity Introduction

"Our next presenter is either an internatially acclaimed movie star or an auto dealership. Please welcome Harrison Ford."

Hey, That Woman Looks Familiar

Oh, wait, that's Diablo Cody, who won for Juno's screenplay. I thought it was Pebbles Flintstone.

Hair

I'm glad Cameron Diaz is a blonde again.

Do-Over

What? They brought a winner back on stage after the commercial for remarks? Unheard of!

Rag Time II

Trend: Little snippets of tulle that look like feathers.

Rag Time

Best dresses so far: Renee, Charlize, Jennifer G
Worst: Tilda, Cate

Music to My Ears

Well, if the song from August Rush couldn't win, I'm glad it's this one. The songs from Enchanted were disappointing.

Is It Snowing in LA?

The scarf around the neck of the older gentleman accepting his award from Nicole K...a dated look.

Out of the Past

Remember when we saw Schindler's List and could barely talk afterwards?
Ditto to Juno and The Savages.
"It is true there are some angels in this city." Nice.

Anticipation

Movies I can't wait to see: Juno and Savages.
I loved Elizabeth the Golden Age.
I loved Away from Her
I loved La Vie en Rose
I am sure I would have loved The Savages and Juno.
OK, here I am! (Wow! I look good in my picture.)

I am liking all the flashbacks.

Flashbacks

I love seeing the montages of past winners. What a nice touch.

Super Bad at the Oscars!

Oh, I love these guys from Super Bad filling in for Halle Berry and Judi Dench.

Audience Favorite

There's Tommy Lee Jones! Be still my heart.

Musical Uh-Oh

If the nominated song from Enchanted is any indication of the musical performances tonight, I know when I'll be taking bathroom breaks....

Best Opening Jokes

Julie Christie -- in a movie a woman who forgets her husband -- Hillary Clinton calls it "the feel good movie of the year"

Dennis Hopper -- Mentioning he's here in the audience "so he knows where he is

"Hillary & Barack -- Normally, when you see a black or woman president, an asteroid is about to hit the Statue of Liberty

Gaydolph Titler

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon

I love "The Closer" -- the storylines, the scripts, the acting. Kyra Sedgwick's hubby Kevin Bacon directed tonight's episode. Impressive.

Sopranos Out on a HIgh Note?

At first, I -- like one out of five TV viewers and Jay Leno -- thought my cable went out. But no, that was really it. Badda bing. Over.

I did not like it. Not at all.

But after I thought about the first family of crime for a while today, I realized that it is because of David Chase's choice of endings that I can think about them -- how they would go on, how ordinary their lives were in some ways, how extraordinary in other ways. They are still out there in the ether. Thank you, David, for not whacking them. Fade to black.

Foresee Your Needs!

You would think that after all these years on TV, the Today Show would know how to time a segment. Why, then, do they always have to rush through the lifestyle segments -- cooking, fashion, whatever? Hello producers: You just can't do justice to 12 types of lipstick in only 1 minute.

Cheaper than a Therapist

The new NBC show, "Thank God You're Here," provides priceless laugh therapy. It is truly laugh-out-loud funny. I hope this one sticks around for awhile, but I wonder if they'll have trouble finding comedians who are good enough at this to sustain the concept.

Gates Needs to Re-boot for TV Interviews

Bill Gates, out promoting Windows Vista, is a textbook example of "what not to do" during TV interviews. He:
  • looks at the camera instead of the interviewer
  • leans all the way back in his chair, slouching like a teenager
  • bolts from the set as soon as the interview is over instead of waiting for the show to go to commercial
It's almost refreshing. While you might expect someone at his level to be a polished, media-savvy executive, he has instead stayed true to his nerdy self.
