New Season

I liked the first episode of "Courting Alex." Jenna Elfman is captivating and it's fun seeing Dabney Coleman in a TV show again. "Love Monkey" is good so far, too -- a smart script and likable characters. I'm waiting to see if our local boy, Teddy Geiger, who plays "Wayne" (what a peculiar name for this character), the teenage musician, gets a good response. The music video for one of the songs he sings on the show made its debut on MTV this week. (Find Jessie's photo with Teddy at this link.)

Juxtaposition

This morning on the Today Show:

Segment on how to find out if your spouse is cheating ... followed by segment on how to flirt.
Segment on Valentine's Day gifts, including the ubiquitous chocolate ... followed by segment on top 10 dieting mistakes women make

Hmmm.

May the Best Man Win —Not

I'll watch "Dancing with the Stars" again when it goes back to being about dancing.

Pinky

Lisa Rinna reminded me of an ostrich minus half its feathers on "Dancing with the Stars" this week.

Golden Globe Highlights

Highlights from the Golden Globe ceremony -- for me -- include:
  • George Clooney's reference to Jack Abramoff's name
  • Steve Carell's entire acceptance speech
  • Drew Barrymore's dress and lack of ... how you say ... support garments ... what was she thinking? And what did she say? Who knows? I was too busy staring to listen.
  • Geena Davis's joke about inspiring the little girl

Danny Boy

What's all the hoopla about The Book of Daniel? Are people of the cloth not supposed to have lives? Are they all either really really holy or really really evil? I find Daniel's (Aiden Quinn) addiction to Vicadin refreshing . . .

Have Her Cake . . .

Martha Stewart has been baking cakes all week on her morning show and talking about taking them over to David Letterman to convince him to come on her show Feb 14. The whole schtick is very funny -- I wonder how David likes being on the other side of the joke. Leave it to Martha.

Ready, Willing & Cable

One of the funniest field videos on The Daily Show in quite awhile is "Ready, Willing and Cable," available for viewing at http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_daily_show/videos/most_recent/index/jhtml.

Tee-Hee

Peter Bergen, CNN's terrorism analyst, was on The Daily Show promoting his book about Osama Bin Laden. He has quite the girly man laugh -- very unexpected but entertaining. The video is on the Web site.

Matt's Ready for His Close-up

Matt Lauer did an exceptional job in his cameo role on tonight's live "Will & Grace." His acting was waaaaay better than Katie's when she was on the show, and her appearance wasn't live.
